Options and prices made easy
To make it easier to find new grave spaces available, cemeteries have been divided into 'active' and 'historic'. Active cemeteries are those continuing to sell rights of burial. Cemeteries listed as historic may be continuing to bury in previously sold graves and may offer memorialisation of cremated remains and/or above ground burial. In a minority of cases, 'historic' cemeteries are closed to burial. In many cases, 'active' cemeteries have a long and imporatant history.
Comparison of cemeteries is very difficult because they may be very different from each other and offer different products and services. In the same way you can describe the differences between apples and oranges, in the end, preferences are personal. Similarly, just as there are different grades of fruit, there are different grades of burial products. A headstone will vary in price, for example, from a few hundred dollars to many thousands of dollars. All of the prices may be competetive, but some perople may prefer to pay for a 'Porsche' rather than, say, a 'Hyundai'. To continue the fruit analogy, apples may vary in price according to size and quality. There are many options available across cemeteries and it is best to make your own comparisons.
