General comment

A large part of the cemetery is now buried out but  the site is generally well cared for and holds a wealth of history. Cemetery management has been amalgamated over time into the three remaining independent management units, although this is not clear from a visit to the cemetery.  At one entrance to the cemetery there is a welcoming sign by the Catholic Cemeteries Board but in the absence of another sign it gives the impression the whole site is a Catholic Cemetery (which is not the case).  At the centre of the site there is the Church of England Office and toilets. Luckily the staff are friendly and generally helpful and there is no sign saying that non Church of England can't use these facilities. There is no obvious sign which indicates how the Greek community contact the Rookwood Independent Trust.

In general terms burial is available in the Greek section, the Anglican Lawn 8 and the Catholic Lawn area. Additional infil sites become available as previously purchased burial rights are returned to the cemetery. Above ground crypts and vaults are available in the Anglican Cemetery by contacting the Stonemason/builder Eddie Cirillo on 02 9638 1811; or from the Catholic Cemeteries Board.

Indicative prices

The following prices are given as a guide only and cannot be relied on. Contact the each cemetery for up-to-date information. Prices are reviewed annually. All prices include GST. 

1. Anglican Lawn 8  (March 2009) - $4,895 including memorial stone, plaque and maintenance plus interment at time of 1st burial (now) $1,595. Infil graves in the older monumental sections, when available, are $5,280 including 1st opening.

2. Greek Section - Monumental grave Greek section, including GST $5,830 plus monument (valid until 31 Mar 2009). Reopening fee $2,706.

3. Catholic Lawn - Lawn burial with standard headstone $6,810
