Nestled on the hill above Bronte Beach, Waverley cemetery is a landmark in the area with spectacualr views over the ocean. Dating from 1877, Waverly cemetery has perhaps the best collection of highly monumented Victorian graves in NSW. Henry Lawson. Dorothea maKellar and othe rfamous people are buried there. The cemetery is well maintained although improved weed management of the graves would improve the overall appearance. The heritage of the cemetery is maiantained by the continued use of white marble and sanstone for monuments on new graves.

Renewable Tenure

Monumental Graves for multiple interments are available for a tenure or 25 to 99 years and these tenures may be renewed. Without this, Waveley Cemetery is likly to have already closed. In addition to monumental graves, vault construction (price on application) and ash burial are available.


Indicative prices

The following prices (1 February 2009) are given as a guide only and cannot be relied on. Contact the cemetery for up-to-date and comprehensive information. Prices are reviewed annually. All prices include GST. All rights of burial are for 2 people.

A. Monumental Graves for 25 years:$14,300 plus interment fee of $1,634 plus monument application fee (from $58), annual maintenance fee (from $149) and the monument.

B. Ashes for 25 year tenure
Niche wall: from $1,111 plus plaque
Memorial Garden memorial: $1,595 pus plaque
Allocated double memorial garden or memorial shrub for 2: $4,576 plus plaque ($252 - $527) and 2nd interment ($572)
Memorial shrub for 4 interments: $5,720 plus plaque and subsequent interments
Family memorial of 6 interments $7,722 plus subsequent interments.
